Timberlake turned the slime on the audience

Host Justin Timberlake opened the LA ceremony by getting doused in ooze but was soon joined by the likes of Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn.

Stiller took the Wannabe Award as the star children want to be like, Sandler being voted best male movie star and 13-year old Dakota Fanning best female.

Timberlake won top male singer but lost his burping crown to the audience.

Other winners were Beyonce as favourite female singer, American Idol took favourite TV programme and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest as top movie.

Fanning, who giggled her way through her acceptance speech, said: "I can't believe this, oh my goodness."

"I want to thank all of you out there, and at home, who voted for me. I consider all of you my friends!"

In a speech mocking awards speeches, Sandler put on the voice he used for his Happy Gilmore character as he thanked the inventor of the potato chip bag and the pillow, and everyone in the audience "for not making fun of me for talking like this every speech I do".

Nickelodeon is a cable TV channel aimed at children and pre-teens.

Viewers vote online to select the winners in each category. Approximately 25 million votes were cast last year, Nickelodeon said.
