Thurman stalker given probation

Mr Jordan was accused of following the actress for two years

A man convicted of stalking actress Uma Thurman and harassing her family for two years has been sentenced to three years' probation.

Jack Jordan, 37, will be required to receive psychiatric care in his home state of Maryland as a condition.

The judge also imposed a five-year restraining order and if any of the court's terms are violated, Mr Jordan will be jailed.

The out-of-work lifeguard and pool cleaner was convicted last month.

Mr Jordan was accused of sending harassing e-mails to Ms Thurman's father and brother, loitering for hours on the steps of her Manhattan apartment and visiting her trailer on the set of her 2006 film My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

'Unacceptable'

Mr Jordan, who had been previously committed to a mental institution, could have been sentenced to up to a year in prison.

"It's important that you understand that your conduct is unacceptable, is criminal," said New York Criminal Court Judge Gregory Carro.

Ms Thurman testified at the trial that she was "completely freaked out" by Mr Jordan's actions and feared for her life and the safety of her two children.

Mr Jordan's lawyer, George Vomvolakis, said his client loved the actress and was obsessed by her but that his behaviour was "creepy," not criminal.

Mr Jordan, who appeared in court wearing rumpled clothes, apologised and said he would have left Thurman alone had he realised he was causing her pain or fear.
