The trial of a man accused of stalking film star Uma Thurman is due to begin in New York.

The actress is expected to appear as a witness to give evidence against Jack Jordan, accused of following Ms Thurman for more than two years.

Prosecutors say he appeared at her home and on a movie set and he wrote to the Kill Bill star's father professing his love for her.

The 37-year from Maryland has received psychiatric treatment in the past.

Destined

In one of his letters, Mr Jordan complained that he had been confined to a hospital and was being forced to take medication.

He was arrested in October and told police that he saw the actress on a movie screen and knew they were destined to have a relationship.

The court in Manhattan will hear statements from Mr Jordan, including one of his letters to Ms Thurman, despite a defence plea to exclude the material from the trial.

His lawyer George Vomvolakis argued the police obtained them illegally after telling Mr Jordan he could go home after he handed them over.

But the judge said the documents were "clearly relevant" to whether Ms Thurman was scared by his actions.

Mr Vomvolakis said earlier this year he had hoped to work out a plea deal with his client and avoid a trial on the agreement that he would seek further psychiatric treatment.
