Sex and the City took more than �8m at UK cinemas in its opening weekend, but failed to match the might of Indiana Jones, according to initial figures. The film, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall, took �8,767,265 - including previews - at the box office. But Harrison Ford's latest outing as Indiana Jones took �12.2m in its first three days of UK release last month. Fans have been enthusiastic about the Sex and the City movie, based on the US TV series, despite mixed reviews. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was in second place behind Sex and the City with takings of �5.5m last weekend. Rom-com What Happens in Vegas, starring Cameron Diaz, was in third with �6.41m, while Robert Downey Junior's comic book movie Iron Man fell one place after spending a week at number three. Nim's Island took the fifth spot, while Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay took �265,346 to be a new entry at six. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, starring comedian Russell Brand, was at seven, while adventure film Speed Racer continued its fall down the chart, landing at number eight. The Wachowski brothers' film has taken a disappointing �1.5m since its release four weeks ago. Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins was the top 10's final new entry at nine, while Caramel, a Lebanese drama about the lives of five women living in Beirut, completed the chart.
