The Sex and the City film has beaten Indiana Jones' first-day average at the UK box office, according to movie website Screen Daily. Sex And The City, based on the US TV show, took a screen average of �4,563, beating Indiana Jones' opening day average last week of �4,119. However, the fourth instalment in the Indiana series, which was shown at 534 sites, took a total of �2.2m. Sex and the City, which was only shown in 453 sites, took �2.1m. Crowds of female fans queued outside cinemas in the capital to get a first glimpse of the hotly-anticipated film when it opened on Wednesday night. The film, which follows the highs and lows of four women obsessed with fashion and relationships, is a spin-off from the TV show of the same name, which ran for six series until 2004. Stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall all attended the world premiere in London earlier this month.
