Last week's number one movie fell to fourth place - Fool's Gold, starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.

Romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe was the only other release to make its debut in the top 10, at number five.

The chart-topper, Jumper, was directed by Doug Liman.

He emerged in the 1990s with films such as Swingers and Go, and moved on to blockbusters such as The Bourne Identity and Mr and Mrs Smith.

The script was based on two sci-fi novels by Steven Gould, aimed at young adults.

The film was heavily promoted in North America, including a trailer shown during a commercial break in the Super Bowl final.
