Hot Fuzz has now surpassed takings of Pegg's Shaun of the Dead

The film, which stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, held off a challenge from Nicolas Cage's comic book film Ghost Rider, which entered at number two.

Hot Fuzz has now made 15.7m in the UK, more than double the figure earned by Pegg's last film, Shaun of the Dead.

Jim Carrey's thriller The Number 23 remains at number three and children's tale Charlotte's Web falls to four.
