The film named after spoof Kazakh reporter Borat, which starred Sacha Baron Cohen, has been nominated for a South Bank Show Award in comedy. It is up against Ricky Gervais's TV series Extras and last year's one-off special of The Royle Family.
And the final Prime Suspect competes with shows on the Moors murders and Bradford riots in the drama category.
The awards - to be hosted by Melvyn Bragg in London on 23 January - also cover music, theatre and the arts.
In the pop category, Jarvis Cocker's solo album Jarvis is listed alongside the Arctic Monkeys' release Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, and Back To Black by Amy Winehouse.
Literature
The Queen, the movie which stars Dame Helen Mirren, will be competing against United 93 and Red Road for best film.

The literature category features Howard Jacobson with Kalooki Nights, Edward St Aubyn's Mother's Milk and So Many Ways to Begin by Jon McGregor.
Connie Fisher, who recently made her stage debut in the West End version of The Sound of Music, is included in the breakthrough award category.
David Oyelowo, best-known for playing Danny in BBC drama Spooks, is among the other actors up for the same award, as well as Simon Amstell, the new host of TV music quiz Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

Other categories that will be featured include theatre, classical music, dance, opera, visual arts and the Arts Council England decibel award. "Across the waterfront - in music, theatre, acting, writing, painting, dance and film - the British are enjoying quite wonderful success," said Bragg.
"This awards ceremony uniquely celebrates and honours that.
"The arts are an area in which we truly have a world-class story to tell - and we tell it at the South Bank Show Awards."
