Singer Weller to open Proms gig
Paul Weller
Weller rose to fame in 1977 with his first band, The Jam
Singer Paul Weller will open the inaugural BBC Electric Proms in London later this month.

The Magic Numbers, The Zutons and The Fratellis have also been added to the bill at Camden's Roundhouse, completing the line-up of over 50 artists.

Other musicians already confirmed for the five-day music festival include Fatboy Slim and James Brown.

"I've not played at the Roundhouse since 1977 so it will be quite nice to go back," said Weller.

"I suppose it reminds me of my youth, when I first started playing in London," he added.

Classic hits

Weller, who has always had a reputation for pushing musical boundaries, will perform unique collaborations with a mixture of various artists.

The former front-man of the band The Jam will also sing some of his classic hits, as well as debuting some brand new material.

The Magic Numbers will play tracks from their forthcoming album, Those The Brokes, while The Zutons will perform hits from their latest album, Tired of Hanging Around.

The Fratellis will join rock legends The Who on Sunday October 29.

The Proms will be featured extensively on BBC TV and radio.
