Brown joins Electric Proms bill
James Brown
Brown is one of the most influential men in music
Singer James Brown - nicknamed the "Godfather of soul" - has been added to the line-up for the BBC Electric Proms in London next month.

Brown, whose hits include Papa's Got A Brand New Bag and Living In America, will play a unique set with a number of special guest artists.

The set is to be inspired by Brown's famed routines in hotel lobbies.

The Electric Proms is a five-day rock and pop festival inspired by the "accessibility" of the classical Proms.

New act

Other new names announced for the Electric Proms are rising young singer-songwriter Jamie T and Trinidad-born Calypso king Young Tiger.

Names already on the line-up include Mercury Prize nominees Guillemots and The Good, The Bad and The Queen - a new act put together by Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn.

Meanwhile legendary rock group The Who will give a one-off premiere of their rock opera Wire And Glass.

Several venues in Camden, north London, will be used for gigs, film screenings, art and master classes, with highlights broadcast on TV, on radio and online.
