Domingo has sung a vast range of roles on stage |
Spanish star Placido Domingo, who was one of the Three Tenors, is to write a guide to opera music. The Joy of Opera will offer insights into masterpieces and describe the factors which make singers so good.
"Opera for so many people remains a mystery, a curious and strange art form when it really should be much more part of our everyday lives," he said.
The 65-year-old is the general director of the Los Angeles Opera and the Washington National Opera in the US.
New York-based publisher WW Norton has acquired worldwide rights to the book, which will be on sale in 2009.
Domingo made his debut in 1959 and has sung more than 120 roles on stage and in recordings.
He had huge success in a trio with Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti.
Their rendition of Nessun Dorma became synonymous with the football World Cup in Italy in 1990, and they also performed at that tournament in 1994, 1998 and 2002.
