Tenor Placido Domingo will make his first appearance at the BBC Proms concerts this year, as will world music stars Ravi Shankar and Baaba Maal. Domingo will join a performance of Wagner's Die Walkure on 18 July.
Concerts will mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II and 200 years since the birth of Hans Christian Andersen and the Battle of Trafalgar.
The series of 70 concerts takes place at London's Royal Albert Hall from 15 July until 10 September.
'Musical legend'
Acclaimed musician Ravi Shankar, 85, will perform his sitar Concerto No 1 with daughter Anoushka in August.
Proms organiser Nicholas Kenyon described Shankar as "one of the great legends of musical life today".

Baaba Maal will play with his band Daande Lenol (The Voice of the People). One hundred young musicians aged between 15 and 18 will join the BBC Symphony Orchestra to perform Respighi's The Pines of Rome and a new work.
"It's a quite risky but exciting project," said Mr Kenyon.
Concerts marking the battle of Trafalgar range from Haydn's Nelson Mass to British classics such as Vaughan Williams's A Sea Symphony and Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore.
Other music includes Stravinsky's The Fairy's Kiss and Mendelssohn's incidental music to A Midsummer Night's Dream.

The anniversary of the end of World War II will be commemorated by the first-night performance of A Child of Our Time by Sir Michael Tippett and a late-night rendition of Henryk Gorecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs. For the first time, BBC One will broadcast the first half of the First Night of the Proms - which has been on BBC Two until now - as well as the second half.
Eighteen new works, including pieces by composers Marc-Andre Dalbavie and Detlev Glanert, will receive premieres.
The world-renowned African Children's Choir makes its Proms debut on 7 August, while the annual Blue Peter concerts aim to attract a younger audience.
Organisers will offer half-price Proms tickets to under-16s for the first time.
The Proms cost more than �8m a year to stage, with almost �4m received from box office sales and advertising.
