The Pussycat Dolls have had two UK number one singles |
Pop group The Pussycat Dolls are to search for an extra band member in a new US reality TV show. An eight-part series, tentatively titled The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll, will be shown on the CW network.
The troupe began as burlesque dancers in 1995 and released their first record last year, scoring UK number one singles with Don't Cha and Stickwitu.
The winning contestant will join the current line-up of six members, which has been together since 2003.
Live test
Founder and choreographer Robin Antin will put the contenders through their paces in the TV show, with certain segments broadcast live.
CW president of entertainment Dawn Ostroff said: "At its core, this show goes beyond just finding a new Pussycat Doll - it's about female empowerment, self-discovery and personal transformation."
The Pussycat Dolls first made a name for themselves by inviting celebrity guests to take part in their raunchy stage shows.
Stars who joined the ensemble on stage include Drew Barrymore, Britney Spears, Charlize Theron and Nicolette Sheridan.
The band's debut album, PCD, has sold almost five million copies worldwide.
