X Factor runners-up G4 saw their second album G4 and Friends enter the chart at number six, while The Darkness' latest release, One Way Ticket To Hell and Back, debuted at 11.

Other new entries in the top 40 album chart were young trio The Choirboys, who are among those in the running for the Christmas number one single, and Slade with another greatest hits release.

In the singles chart Westlife saw You Raise Me Up slip two place to four, followed by the Black Eyed Peas' My Humps at five.

The first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, secured a new entry at number seven with Because of You, followed by Babyshambles, Pete Doherty's latest group, with Albion.

Record companies are gearing up for the lucrative Christmas chart, with Westlife's collaboration with Diana Ross tipped to win the race for the number one spot, which will actually be announced on Christmas Day.
