Model Sophie Anderton was left in tears in the show's first episode |
ITV1's reality show Love Island has struggled to attract viewers with only 3.2 million tuning in for the first episode of the second series. The programme, in which 11 contestants "date" and compete for public votes, was beaten by Channel 4's Big Brother and Only Fools On Horses on BBC One.
Last year's series, which was won by Fran Cosgrove and Jayne Middlemiss, opened with 5.6 million viewers.
Model Sophie Anderton, and actor Lee Otway are taking part this year.
Other contestants include Chris Brosnan, son of Bond star Pierce, socialite Lady Victoria Hervey and ex-Boyzone star Shane Lynch.
In the first episode of the programme, contestants were forced to pair off, as their bedroom contained five double beds and just one single.
Ms Anderton, 29, was left in tears when none of the male contestants chose her.
However, she ended up sleeping in the same bed as Lady Victoria after Lynch said sharing a bed with his chosen partner went against his principles.
For this year's series, the word "celebrity" has been dropped from the show's title and model Kelly Brook is missing from the presenter line-up.
Patrick Kielty remains but now co-hosts the show with Fearne Cotton.
