Tougher Love Island eyes ratings
The participants on ITV1's Love Island
Love Island is up against Channel 4's Big Brother in the TV ratings
ITV1 is to set trickier tasks for contestants on Love Island and will cut the time they spend by the pool to try to boost the reality show's audience.

The last series, won by Fran Cosgrove and Jayne Middlemiss, opened with 5.6 million viewers. But it could not build on that figure and critics panned it.

A total of 11 castaways will spend the next seven weeks on a Fijian island.

They include Chris Brosnan, son of Bond star Pierce, socialite Lady Victoria Hervey and ex-Boyzone star Shane Lynch.

Model Sophie Anderton, Hollyoaks actor Lee Otway and Strictly Come Dancing instructor Brendan Cole are also among those taking part.

The contestants will be forced to pair off immediately as their tropical hideaway's bedroom contains five double beds and just one single.

For this year's show, the word "celebrity" has been dropped from the title and model Kelly Brook is missing from the presenter line-up.

Patrick Kielty remains but will now co-host the show with Fearne Cotton.
