ITV has apologised after media watchdog Ofcom criticised an interview with actor Charles Dance on the Paul O'Grady show due to "unacceptable" swearing. The Bleak House star, 59, used a number of expletives during the live show which went out at 5pm in December.
O'Grady gave Dance a warning after he swore the first time but the actor went on to swear again twice.
Ofcom added that ITV had taken "reasonable precautions" and its efforts were generally successful.
The show, which has now moved to Channel 4, is usually live but sometimes pre-records guests if producers feel that certain celebrities might use strong language.
But the programme makers thought it unlikely that Dance, who starred in BBC drama Bleak House, would swear.
O'Grady's new Channel 4 slot - at 1700 each weekday - is being shared with daytime television stalwarts Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan. The two programmes will rotate every three months.
O'Grady's ITV1 show had been a ratings success since its launch in October 2004, but he defected to Channel 4 in a blaze of publicity in January.
