Chat show host Paul O'Grady has been named TV personality of the year at an awards ceremony decided by the broadcasting industry. The Lily Savage star was honoured at the Tric awards, given by the Television and Radio Industries Club.
Other winners at the London ceremony included Doctor Who's Billie Piper, who was named best new TV talent.
The BBC's Strictly Come Dancing was named best TV entertainment show and Coronation Street won best TV soap.
Period drama
Strictly Come Dancing, which was a prime-time hit for BBC One, beat I'm A Celebrity..., Top Gear and The X Factor to take the prize.
O'Grady, who recently moved from ITV to Channel 4, fought off competition from Jonathan Ross and last year's winners Ant and Dec.
Other winners were BBC One's Breakfast, which won best TV daytime show, Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, who took the radio personality honours, and Little Britain was named best TV comedy programme.
The BBC period drama Bleak House, which featured a star-studded cast, won the Tric award for best TV drama programme, ahead of Doctor Who and Shakespeare Re-told.
Elsewhere, the BBC's Fiona Bruce took the honours for best newscaster/reporter, Helen Willetts won best TV weather presenter, and Radio 2's Steve Wright in the Afternoon was named best radio programme.
