Inuit film opens Toronto festival
The Journals of Knud Rasmussen, which examines the history of Inuit aboriginal people in Canada, will open this year's Toronto Film Festival.

It is co-directed by Zacharias Kunuk, who won the Golden Camera Prize for first-time directors in Cannes in 2001 with a previous release, Atanarjuat.

The film's story is told from the perspective of a father and daughter.

It will be shown on the first night of the annual Canadian festival, which begins on 7 September.

'Visionary work'

Kunuk directs the movie with Norman Cohn, and festival director Noah Cowan said the pair had "created a truly visionary work of art".

"They have again redefined the scope and visual palette of Canadian film, while telling a profound and moving story," he added.

Screenings of The Journals Of Knud Rasmussen will held in Inuit communities in Canada and Greenland before it is shown in Toronto.
