The pair's Olympic performance stopped debate in the House of Commons

The pair, who 24 million viewers saw win Olympic gold medals in 1984, will look after aspiring celebrity skaters on live championship Dancing on Ice.

Ex-England goalkeeper David Seaman, Olympic athlete Kelly Holmes and dancer Bonnie Langford are among competitors.

A panel of judges and viewers' votes decide who continues on the Saturday night show, starting 14 January.

Other celebrity skaters include West End star John Barrowman, television presenter and executive Andi Peters and former IT Girl Tamara Beckwith.

The Bill's Stefan Booth, Coronation Street's Sean Wilson, Fat Friends star Gaynor Faye and GMTV's Andrea McLean are also taking part.

The last performance by Torvill and Dean was in 1998, shortly before they announced their retirement.

Ms Torvill, 48, said: "It's great working together again.

"We danced together every day for 25 years so to get back together after almost a decade is just brilliant. We just fit together so well."

The pair skated their way to gold medal stardom at the Sarajevo Olympics on Valentine's Day in 1984.

Their interpretation of Bolero received an unprecedented 12 perfect scores. The performance delayed television news and a House of Commons debate.
