The purple outfit from Bolero was on offer |
World-famous costumes worn by Nottingham's ice dancing legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have raised 15,000 for young sports stars. They donated 11 of their outfits worn in the Olympic Games and other competitions to the charity SportsAid to go under the hammer in Nottingham.
Mr Dean's famous "Bolero" outfit was not sold, but a watch created using material from the costume was bought.
A Nottingham businessman successfully bid for four of the costumes.
Helen Murphy, from SportsAid East Midlands, said: "We have still got about five costumes left which we will place at sporting dinners and events.
 | These costumes hold lots of memories for us |
"I am pleased with the result and pleased that the costumes we have sold will stay in Nottingham, where the pair were born."
The gold costume worn by Dean for the couple's performance of "Mack and Mabel" fetched the highest price at the auction - 1,400 - at Nottingham Racecourse.
Ms Torvill said: "These costumes hold lots of memories for us. We hope that the monies raised will go on to help other young sportsmen and women."
The couple retired from competitive skating following their gold medal in the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo and produced their own ice show.
