Hollywood stars Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are to play the lead roles in a film remake of 1980s show Miami Vice. Irish actor Farrell will play Sonny Crockett, the part played by Don Johnson in the police drama.
Foxx - nominated for an Oscar for his role in Ray - is to fill the role of Ricardo Tubbs, Crockett's sidekick.
The project is being written and directed by Michael Mann, an executive producer on the TV show, which ran from 1984-89, said makers Universal Studios.
The movie is due to begin filming in the spring, while makers Universal Studio recently released a DVD of the hit show's first season.

The picture is expected to be released in cinemas in July 2006.
Miami Vice was recently voted by Radio Times as one of the "coolest" TV programmes ever made, sharing the honours with the likes of CSI and Queer As Folk.
Other upcoming big screen remakes of past television hits include Bewitched, starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell and the Dukes of Hazzard, featuring Seann William Scott, Jessica Simpson and Burt Reynolds.
Foxx is being tipped to win the best actor oscar for portraying Ray Charles on the back of his triumph at the Baftas.
Farrell, who began his career on television, most recently appeared in historical epic Alexander, which received lukewarm reviews and was a box office disappointment.
