A judge has dismissed sexual harassment charges against actor Christian Slater on the condition he commits no criminal offence for six months. The 36-year-old star was arrested in New York in May for allegedly groping a woman's bottom.
He was charged with third degree sexual abuse - or forcible touching - carrying a maximum jail sentence of one year.
In July, Mr Slater rejected a plea deal that would have spared him jail if he had admitted harassing the woman.
Handcuffed
The alleged victim flagged down a police car to report the incident and Mr Slater, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was stopped a few blocks away and handcuffed.
During a pre-trial hearing in Manhattan on Monday, prosecutors offered to adjourn the case "in contemplation of dismissal".
The decision was accepted by all sides and means Mr Slater will effectively be on probation for six months.
If he does not offend within that time, all charges will be dropped.
In 1997, he pleaded no contest to assaulting his girlfriend and a police officer. He was sentenced to three months imprisonment and served 59 days of the sentence.
The actor, known for his roles in Interview With the Vampire and The Name of the Rose, appeared in a production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in London's West End earlier this year.
