Mr Slater was filmed being arrested

Mr Slater, who is appearing on Broadway in The Glass Menagerie, was filmed in handcuffs being led away to a police car protesting his innocence.

A woman claimed the star had touched her bottom.

Mr Slater, 35, is expected to appear in court later on Tuesday on a charge of third degree sexual abuse.

Detective John Sweeney said Mr Slater was arrested after someone flagged down a police car to make a complaint.

News footage which was later aired showed Mr Slater saying "I didn't do anything" as he was being put into a police car.

Mr Slater, who recently split from his wife, served a three-month prison sentence in 1997 after pleading no contest to assaulting a girlfriend and a police officer.

The actor recently finished a successful West End run in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
