Slater was not hurt in the attack |
A spokesman for actor Christian Slater has denied reports he escaped a knife attack at London's Gielgud theatre. Tom Coupe said that Slater had already left the theatre, where he has been starring in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, when the attack took place.
Previous reports said a man tried to stab the actor as he left the building after Friday's performance.
Police said a 44-year-old man was attacked outside the theatre, but the knife penetrated only his clothing.
Security guards
A knife was recovered from the scene, but no arrests have been made. Police said the investigation was continuing.
"Christian wasn't directly involved," said Slater's publicist Anna Arthur. "It's something that happened in the streets outside, there in the West End. It involved the security guards at the theatre but not Christian."
Slater's role in the West End show, made famous by Hollywood actor Jack Nicholson in the 1975 film, came to an end on Saturday.
His co-stars included Frances Barber and Mackenzie Crook, renowned for his role as Gareth Keenan in TV comedy The Office.
