Zak Starkey has followed in father Ringo's drumming footsteps

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher confirmed drummer Zak Starkey, 38, had been invited to play at the festival.

Gallagher told the BBC's 6 Music radio station they had been using a number of drummers in the studio since the departure of Alan White in January.

Asked if Starkey was a permanent replacement, Gallagher said: "If he can get us his dad's autograph he's in."

"We've known Zak for a while and we asked him if he'd play on a few songs and he said yeah, and he has done and it's been absolutely fantastic," he said

Starkey has previously played with The Lightning Seeds and The Who, who he had met at a young age through his father.

Oasis have often been compared to The Beatles

Gallagher also said that Oasis were unlikely to debut any new material although they had been recording new tracks in the studio.

Drummer Alan White was asked to leave Oasis after being with the band since 1995. He had been brought in to replace original member Tony McCarroll.

The Glastonbury Festival takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset, between 25-27 June.

Other acts confirmed for the event include Sir Paul McCartney and Muse.
