Radiohead's track Lucky received critical acclaim |
Hit charity album Help, which became the fastest number one in UK music history, is to go online on 9 August. The 1995 LP, which featured acts such as Radiohead, Oasis, Blur and The Stone Roses, raised 1.25m for children in the war-ravaged former Yugoslavia.
The album will be available on website warchildmusic.com where it can be downloaded for 3.50.
Help is no longer on offer in stores. All profits from the website will go to help children in troubled regions.
Success replicated
Warchildmusic.com will launch a more comprehensive downloading service in September - songs will be available for 99p per track or 3.50 for a monthly subscription which allows users to download as much material as they like.
"Every track... will be exclusive to Warchild Music. This is an ongoing project which we're sure will quickly become essential for artists and fans alike," said the project's managing director, James Topham.
The War Child charity was founded in 1993. The Help album was followed up by the I Love and Hope albums, which involved artists including Mercury Prize winner Ms Dynamite.
Help sales topped more than 71,000 on its first day in the shops nearly nine years ago.
It made nearly 2m in its first three days in the shops.
