| Friday, 15 February, 2002, 12:55 GMT Oasis help landmine charity ![]() Oasis are currently on the comeback trail Oasis star Noel Gallagher has become the latest celebrity to sign up to the anti-landmine cause by donating a rare art print to a charity based in his home city of Manchester.
The anti-landmine cause has already been championed by stars including Sir Paul McCartney and his fiance Heather Mills. Gallagher donated a signed copy of a limited edition poster, which will be on display at an exhibition in the city before being auctioned. MAG says Oasis inspired the exhibition and sale after Gallagher donated the print when he was unable to perform at a fund-raising concert. Concert "It was a gift that we could auction and raise some money from that still meant that they were helping us in a way," according to MAG's Kathryn Simonds. The concert, Guitars Against Landmines, included sets from Wyman, former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and singer-songwriter Roy Harper.
Oasis recently helped another charity by playing a show at the Royal Albert Hall in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. That was the first step on the comeback trail that will see a new album released later this year, with rumours that the band will tour with U2. Noel Gallagher has said that the current rock music scene is the best it has been "for years". The Strokes are one of the best bands in the world, he told NME magazine, while new albums by Soundtrack Of Our Lives, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Hives are also among his favourites. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Music stories now: Links to more Music stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
