Hit Broadway musical The Producers is to welcome back its original stars, Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. The Mel Brooks musical was Broadway's hottest ticket during the pair's 11-month run in 2001 and 2002, when it won a record 12 Tony Awards.
They will return to New York's St James Theatre on 30 December for 14 weeks.
Broderick is known for film roles in Inspector Gadget and Godzilla and his marriage to Sarah Jessica Parker while Lane is an established Broadway star.
Declining fortunes
The Producers is based on the classic 1968 comedy film by Mel Brooks, who was also responsible for the show's music and lyrics.
But its fortunes have declined since Broderick and Lane left in March 2002, and it is no longer the guaranteed sell-out that it once was.
The musical currently stars Fred Applegate and Don Stephenson and the theatre was only 70% full on average last week.
But its producers hope its original buzz will return with Broderick and Lane.
