Pixar's Finding Nemo has become the most successful animated film of all time in the United States.
The aquatic adventure has taken $328.7m (�208.5m) at the box office in the US, beating the record of $328.5 (�208.4m) held by The Lion King.
However, The Lion King is still the most successul cartoon film world-wide with global box office takings of $780m (�494.8m).
Nemo is the tale of a cowardly father fish who plucks up the courage to hunt for his long lost son.
"Nemo is the biggest film of the summer, the biggest film of the year, and now it is the biggest animated feature of all time," said the head of Exhibitor Relations, Paul Dergarabedian.
