The Disney cartoon has broken box office records

The record-breaking cartoon sold an estimated $29.2m (�17.5m) worth of tickets across the US and Canada during the a three-day period beginning on Friday.

It took the top spot back from the street-racing sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious, which made $19.1m (�11.49m) in its second week.

Finding Nemo, which recorded the most successful ever opening for a cartoon, has now taken $192.3m (�115.6m) in its first three weeks at the box office.

Industry observers expect the film to take up to $300m (�180m) - although it faces tough competition from The Hulk opening next weekend.

Hollywood Homicide, a police comedy starring Harrison Ford, opened at number five in the box office chart with receipts of $11.7m (�7m).

Family cartoon Rugrats Go Wild went in at four with takings of $12.5m (�7.52m), while low-budget comedy prequel Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd was at six with $11.1m (�6.6m).

Bruce Almighty, the latest Jim Carrey comedy, is the number three film with weekend earnings of $14.2m (�8.5m), taking its total to $193.8m (�116.5m) after four weekends.
