DJ Tony Blackburn is to return to BBC Radio 1 almost 20 years after leaving - for one day only to co-host a show with afternoon presenter Chris Moyles.

The veteran star, who helped launch Radio 1 in 1967, was once a firm favourite on the station when his breakfast show attracted up to 20 million listeners.

Moyles will have different guest hosts every day for a week

He will return when Moyles' usual sidekick, "Comedy" Dave Lloyd Vitty, is away taking part in a charity challenge for Comic Relief.

Blackburn has enjoyed a revival since winning reality TV show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here in September 2002.

He will appear on Moyles' 3-5:45pm show on 10 March.

A spokesman for Blackburn said: "I'm sure he'll teach Chris a few tricks. He enjoys listening to Chris' show."

Moyles is expected to be joined by more guest co-presenters during Comic Relief week as his regular sidekick tours the UK's 92 league football grounds for the charity.

National hero

Blackburn was the first presenter on Radio 1 and played the station's first record, Flowers in the Rain, by The Move.

He remained with Radio 1 until 1984, before becoming a soul DJ with the BBC's Radio London station.

Later he moved to oldies network Capital Gold, where he stayed until recently when he signed to become breakfast host of rival Classic Gold.

He became a national hero again after winning I'm A Celebrity... when his affable outlook and log-gathering antics endeared him to a new generation.

His newfound cult status was confirmed when he presented the best DJ award at black music awards the Mobos in October.
