Live With Chris Moyles marked the afternoon DJ's first foray into mainstream TV.

But the show's ratings were unimpressive, and a spokeswoman for the network said he was leaving by "mutual consent".

He will be replaced by Christian O'Connell, breakfast DJ with London rock station Xfm, when the show - which has Chris Evans as an executive producer - returns next month.

The Five spokeswoman said the decision came after discussions about Moyles' commitment to the project.

His radio show ends at 1745 daily, and then he would rush from Radio 1's studios in London's West End to the TV show's base in King's Cross for its start at 1900.

"It became increasingly apparent that Chris Moyles finishing at that time then going over to the studio wasn't working.

"The show needed more attention from the presenter which he was unable to give because of his other commitments," the spokeswoman said.

O'Connell will take over for an eight-week run starting next month. The show will take his name but stick to the same format of games, showbiz gossip and audience participation.

Moyles is now discussing a new weekly show for Five with Chris Evans's production company UMTV.
