| Thursday, 23 January, 2003, 13:02 GMT BBC Three's launch line-up revealed ![]() Dom Joly brings his brand of humour to the BBC The BBC's latest digital service aimed at 20 and 30-somethings will launch with a mix of hard-hitting documentaries and irreverent humour. BBC Three goes lives live on 9 February, replacing BBC Choice and completing the corporation's line-up of digital channels. The launch schedule includes a documentary entitled Jailed by the State, a follow up to journalist David Akinsanya's story of his time spent in Borstal as a teenager In his first outing for the BBC, established star Dom Joly will host his studio show This is Dom Joly.
One of the focuses of BBC Three will be on original British productions, including animation, drama and comedy. "In contrast to other channels, Britishness will be found throughout BBC Three," said Mr Murphy. Hitting 30 "We want to reflect the lives of young people in this country - the geographical contrasts and ethnic mix which is part and parcel of being young and British." Lisa Faulkner and former Spice Girl Mel B will be star in the drama Burn It, a Manchester-based drama which addresses the issues of hitting 30 years of age. Music and news will also feature heavily with the hourly news summary 60 Seconds joining BBC Three. Other stars signed to the channel include Johnny Vaughan, who will present a chat show and Charlie Higson who will appear in the sitcom Swiss Toni, a spin-off from his Fast Show character. There will also be Underground 2003 - The BBC Three Awards, a forum for recognising icons and visionaries of the future. |
