Rapper Sean "P Diddy" Combs has denied he is back together with former girlfriend Jennifer Lopez after she reportedly separated from her husband.

Actress and singer Lopez and dancer Cris Judd were reported to have split this month after only nine months of marriage.

On Friday, US news agency Associated Press quoted a "source close to Lopez" insisting the couple had parted amicably with no third party involved and no immediate plans for divorce.

It was first reported on Friday by New York Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams, the same journalist who revealed the timing and location of Sir Paul McCartney's nuptials.

Adams also reported Combs and Lopez were back together.

Her high-profile relationship with the rap star had ended last year before his acquittal in New York on charges of gun possession and bribery.

But Combs's spokeswoman Nathalie Moar said: "Contrary to reports, Mr Combs and Ms Lopez are not together. However, he wishes her well during this difficult time."

Lopez's official spokesperson has refused to comment on her private life.

Lopez met Judd after he danced in her stage show and married in secret in October last year.

Her previous one-year marriage to male model Ojani Noa ended in divorce in 1998.
