UN head Ban Ki-Moon asks Hatians for patience

UN peacekeepers in Haiti will be joined by thousands of US troops to help keep order, so aid agencies can deliver much-needed supplies.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has asked Haitians to be patient as the aid operation is organised, saying the situation was "one of the worst humanitarian crises in decades".

The Haitian government has said it believes as many as 100,000 people may have died, and some 70,000 have already been buried.
