The United States navy says pirates who have hijacked the large Saudi-Arabian owned tanker, the Sirius Star, are taking the vessel to Somalia.
Speaking on Radio 4's PM programme, Nathan Christensen from the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain said it was the furthest offshore attack yet seen.
