George W Bush leaves on Friday for his second trip as president to sub-Saharan Africa. The US president will visit Tanzania and Rwanda in east Africa and Benin, Ghana and Liberia in the west.
The White House said the trip would be an opportunity to demonstrate American commitment to the these countries and to Africa in general.
The statement said the trip will also discuss issues such as poverty, development and security.
Ghana's foreign minister, Akwasi Osei Adjei, said the state visit is an occasion for celebration as it bears testimony to a true partnership and relationship of shared values, dialogue and friendship.
