Many Tuaregs say they are marginalised by the government |
Tuareg rebels in northern Niger have killed 15 government soldiers in an attack on a military garrison in the Sahara desert. The Niger Movement for Justice (MNJ) say they carried out a dawn raid on the remote army post in Tazerzait.
The rebels also took over 70 hostages, including several wounded, their leader Agali Alambo told AFP news agency.
Earlier this week, the MNJ attacked one of Niger's main airports in the northern town of Agadez.
The rebels, who say they are marginalised by the government, have also raided uranium mines.
The north of Niger is rich in uranium and the country is one of the world's top five uranium producers.
