Reservists first voiced their complaints in January |
Several hundred army reservists in Madagascar have staged a protest over pay outside parliament in the capital, Antananarivo. The men were demanding compensation for backing the country's President Marc Ravalomanana during the political crisis in 2002.
The reservists, who are unarmed, denied reports that they blockaded the parliament or tried to take hostages.
The country was split in two for several months after disputed polls.
The demonstration broke up after lawmakers told reservists that the issue was one for the government, not parliament.
The pay dispute dates back to January when the reservists were disbanded.
In February, the president offered the reservists around $175 but this offer was rejected.
