Boost for Kenya's honest policemen
Kenyan Traffic police officer
Kenya police are often accused of corruption
Two Kenyan police officers who refused to take bribes from traffic offenders and instead arrested them have been promoted to reward their honesty.

Kenya's police have a reputation for corruption, which President Mwai Kibaki has vowed to deal with.

"The promotion of the duo will be a sure eye-opener for the rest out there," said Jambeni Bakari the police boss in Nyanza Province, western Kenya.

Former constables Ezekiel Oduor and John Ogutu were promoted to corporals.

"It is time all officers avoided graft and served diligently for the good of the people," Mr Bakari was quoted as saying in the Daily Nation newspaper.

Last month, junior officers had their pay doubled to raise morale and make bribes less tempting.
