Feed Your Head

Feeding your head with some of these tips each day can help keep it in shape to deal with the inevitable highs and lows of life.

We also want to hear your tips for staying chilled and in control, so use the form at the bottom of the page to let us know how you keep your head in trim! The best will appear below.

Important: for more in-depth support and information, and to get 5 a day tips sent direct to your mobile, head to Headspace!

Feed your head...

1. Get creative
Whether it's writing a song or a story, drawing a picture or filming a video with your mobile, making something from nothing does wonders for your head.

Get inspiration

2. Do something you've been putting off
Doing something you've been meaning to do for ages can be both a relief and a positive step forward. You'll also feel more in control of things.

Do something now

3. Eat well. Be well.
Loading your system with processed food and fizz will run you down, leaving you irritable, tired and depressed. Take control, eat a few fresh fruit and veg and get creative in the kitchen!

4. Relax
Give yourself a designated amount of clear time each day to chill without distractions, putting all your immediate worries to the back of your head.

Learn to meditate

5. Learn something new
Making new paths in your head can help it to run more smoothly so why not read a story or learn the basics of a new language? It's never too late to learn.

6. Accept who you are
Know your limits, what you can and can't do, where you're from and what sort of person you are - learn about your identity - this will help you to stand tall no matter what's going on around you.

7. Write
Write down your problems and use them to learn from and even to get creative with. Great books, music and films come from hard times.

8. Be active
Your head is part of your body, so keeping your belly trim makes for a happier, active head too! More than this, exercising keeps you alert, confident and on the ball! Taking part in a sport can also do wonders for your self-confidence.

Play a sport | Get in shape

9. Go socialise
A wise man once said that friends are the new family - whether they were right or wrong, friends can make a difference to every part of your life and making a call to an old friend can be even better than finding new ones. So, pick up the phone!

10. Share your problems
Nobody can get by all on their own, all of the time. When things are tough and you're alone, there's no harm in asking for backup!

11. Take a nap
If you don't sleep, your head stops working, end of story. A bit of shuteye lets the head go onto standby mode allowing it to charge and regenerate, helping with your memory, concentration and mood.

12. You 'avin a laugh?
People actually recover from illnesses quicker if they laugh and letting your hair down enough to shake that belly a few times a day is always a good idea no matter what your state of health.

13. Give a little back
It's easy to take, but sometimes you can feel happier by giving back. If there's something about your local area you want to change, find other people and

Change things together

14. Grow something
Get yourself a window box, a patch of grass or just a plant pot and you're good to go. Why not try and grow some of your own food ingredients?

Get growing

15. Go explore
There's always something on your doorstep you didn't know was there. Who needs to go on holiday?

Get out there!

16. Believe in yourself
The most important tip of all. No matter what anyone says, no matter how tough times are, always believe in your ability to overcome things.
