Really was not a fan to begin with but after hearing the Carter III i made myself listen to his back catalogue and it was quite a find. By no means the saviour of hip hop but certainly adds a great diversity to a genre that has become quite "samey" in the last 12 months. Definately a stand out artist this year.

I love lil wayne! There are many other rappers who have produced songs as good as his, but still they are all amazing! Very few rappers have such an individual style as he has and Tha Carter III was awesome! Every song on it is genius! He should definitely be artist of 2008! Lil Wayne has shown he can rap with the release of his album ''Tha Carter III'' but ii fiink there has been a better album released this year ... nd it has to be ''LAX'' by The Game (even if it hasn't sold a million copies in the first week) it myt be his last album ... but his bin at the top of his game ... all his tracks on the album are sikk .. including his collaboration with Lil Wayne and i dont know why THE GAME hasn't bin mentioned in the list, his clearly a Hip-hop ICON and in MY opinion his a far better rapper than Lil Wayne ... He has released 5 solo albums... along with over 100 mixtapes! he comes out with 5 or 6 each year with other big names such as juelz santana, the game and young jeezy. If you want to hear the real lil wayne at his best i suggest looking into the mixtape scene! he is the king of it, no doubt about it x

I Agree Weezy is the artist of 2008, he made one of the greatest hip hop albums and is the best rapper alive and backed these up by selling 1 million records in a week. He made one of the most Iconic songs ever, lollipop. He also did some amazing collaborations, My Life, See you in my nightmares(amazing), Let it rock and many more... With Let it rock he moved genres from hip hop to Rock, which is very rare, this proves he is versatile,, He has made mixtapes through out 2008, most notably Dedication 3. And finally he is releasing a new album the carter 3:the rebirth, which is to be a whole new album and be something different... i cannot wait to see what weezy hits us with next...

Its not a released song, but i think 3 peat (Tha Carter III) is Lil Wayne's best ever track produced, because the vocals and beat is "perfect" lol. Also, Lil Wayne made Tha Carter III, and that also is a contender for best hip-hop album of 2008.
