Humanities student Julia Callaghan said she felt it was important to be part of the protest.

"We really need somewhere to study the arts.

"Generally a lot of school kids here go to Edinburgh or Glasgow to study the arts.

"This was brought in to bring the opportunity to study in Dumfries and Galloway and keep jobs here."
