Laxer licensing laws appear to have had little effect on violence levels, according to early figures.

Violent offences and criminal damage are marginally lower than in November 2005, when the Licensing Act - allowing flexible opening hours - took effect.

Offences in the 23 forces supplying continuous data run at about 80,000 a month.
