Only Armenians, Greeks and Jews have minority status. The Kurds, the largest ethnic minority, are not recognised despite comprising about 20% of the population of 72m. They have a sizeable presence in the south-east and have pushed - often violently - for greater rights. Caucasian groups, Arabs and Roma are also "unofficial" minorities.
