Guadalupe sends money back to his wife back in Mexico whenever he can. "I try to send $800 a month," he says. "But usually I can't manage more than $600."

After wiring the money, Guadalupe and his friends discuss the plans for the evening. The options include a warm meal, a game of billiards or a free film screened by a mobile cinema that is visiting Immokalee.

"You have to laugh to forget and not cry," he says.
