In the days after the stroke, Roy's kidneys failed. He contracted pneumonia. He was in a coma for three days.

"When he woke up, he knew that something was wrong with him," Defannie says.

He lost his ability to speak. He can understand what people say but is unable to respond.

Here he is holding his youngest daughter Delona. Now 5-years-old, she has never heard her father speak.
