Iraq's army is organised into five corps. Iraq has around 375,000 regular troops and some 2,000 tanks, but much of the army's equipment is old and decrepit. The elite Republican Guard is considered to be Iraq's most effective fighting force.

Iraq has numerous airbases but like the army, the airforce is largely delapidated and obsolete.
