The States will debate the marina proposals later this week

The Board of Administration is considering the construction of a �3m 350-berth facility at St Sampson's Harbour.

But more than 4,000 people have signed a petition in support of keeping the harbour the way it is.

The marina issue will be debated by the States later this week and they will consider the three amendments.

Deputy Roy Bisson will be asking the States to require the Board to consult more widely over the design and heritage issues, while proceeding with the clean-up of the harbour.

Dismissed concerns

Deputy Peter Roffey wants to see a re-configuration of moorings in the inner harbour to create a clear central pool.

Deputy Mary Lowe, on the other hand, wants the marina project to be shelved altogether, apart from the clean-up of the sediment in the harbour.

Meanwhile, the chief of Marine and General has dismissed concerns expressed by Deputy Lowe over his company's potential involvement and financial interest with any marina development.

M&G's David Norman said it was a lot of fuss about nothing.
